Last Updated:

Hi there, welcome to the boring legal page all websites have to include that almost nobody reads. I’m going to break convention here and use plain language to explain things because nobody has the energy to decipher legalese.

Who We Are

The Trail of Tales, or “us,” “we,” “our,” “I,” is a website, or “service” about fantasy books that I own. My name is Devon Kubacki.

How We Collect The Information

I use to gather most of this information, because it is GDPR compliant and will respect data privacy laws. You can read more about this here: StatsPro Website (Temporarily Removed due to Avast Blacklist Flag)

Also, the WordPress Plugin Rankmath covers some tracking features listed above that GA4 does not track. Learn more about what Rankmath does: Rankmath Website

Finally, I use Woocommerce to enable a storefront experience for The Trail of Tales. This plugin also handles the transactional aspects of the website, but no credit card numbers are saved on this site. I, nor anybody else on this site has access to your credit card information. Payment Processor We Use

I use Stripe to handle payment processing on this site. Stripe is the industry leader when it comes to payment processing, and if giant companies like Amazon, BMW, and Shopify use it, you know it’s secure. Learn more about Stripe.

Affiliate Programs We Participate In

Affiliate programs are marketing campaigns run by businesses to find internet marketing individuals, like myself, and pay us to promote products on our websites and other content mediums. I take part in several such programs, and any purchases you make using any of the links to promoted products will earn a commission.

Below is the full list of affiliate programs we are associated with:

When you guys leave comments on the site I collect what you type and show it in the comments section of the post you comment on. Additionally, to help block spam on the site, your IP address and browser user agent string are collected.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Here is a short tutorial on how to remove EXIF and GPS Data from images:

Cookies are little packets of data that your computer downloads and our site references to keep things like cart data saved, whether or not you are logged in, and a few other features.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded Content From Other Websites

I may embed YouTube Videos from our YouTube channel and others on The Trail of Tales website. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who We Share Your Data With has access to some of your data. See Information we collect and Use section for full details on what data they collect.

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How Long we Retain Your Data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

If you register an account on our website, we also store the personal information you provide in your user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

If you purchase a product from our store pages, the purchase date is logged and tied to your account. Only you and website administrators can see and edit that information. If a product is a digital download, it will be available to you on your account page indefinitely.

What Rights You Have Over Your Data

This section I can’t really change for legal reasons. Sorry for the Legalese.

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where Your Data is Sent

Any comments you choose to leave may be checked through an automated spam detection service. After all, nobody likes spam.
